What’s ASP?
Since 1978, the Senior Pilgrim Fellowship (SPF) of Greenfield Hill Church has participated each summer with the Appalachia Service Project, Inc., a home-repair mission organization based in Central Appalachia, and designed especially for high school youth. ASP is a Christian ministry open to all participants, encouraging teens to understand their home repair work as “faith in action.” Youth work full days, doing physical labor for families in need: it is a hard, but deeply rewarding experience. Our 2027 trip takes place from June 26 to July 3.
Requirements: ASP is the culminating experience of our year together at youth group; Appalachia trip participants are expected to be regular participants at SPF meetings. In addition, participation in the orientation meetings and the Dogwood Festival fundraiser is required. The cost per participant is $775, of which $175 is a deposit paid at time of registration.

Applications for ASP 2027 will be available on this page on November 3. Everyone who is interested in going on ASP 2027 must apply any time between November 3 and 10, via an online form, which will be posted on this page on Nov. 3. The form will close at 6 p.m. on Nov. 10. Applying includes the requirement of a $175 deposit (refundable until March 1). The application includes questions for youth AND parents, and a short reflection is requested as well, so please leave time to complete it thoroughly!
Please note that Nov. 10 at 6 p.m. is a very firm deadline! At that point, the ASP list will be compiled. Past participants in the trip and youth confirmed at GHCC will receive priority, as well as those who have participated in SPF — with any remaining names placed on a wait list.
Interested in serving as an adult leader?
The ASP trip can’t happen without a huge team of interested adults! And we promise — this is a powerful experience of service for adults as well as youth. We count on interested parents, church members, community members, teachers, older siblings! (minimum age for leaders is 19). While adults are not charged to participate, a donation of $375 is welcome and encouraged.
