Welcome!
Welcome to “SHALOM”, our mental health ministry at Greenfield Hill Congregational Church. Often translated as “peace”, shalom actually means even more: a fulsome well-being. To wish someone “shalom” is to wish for them the fullness of life.
Our SHALOM is born out of the sorrows, heartaches, losses, and struggles that so many know personally. We have faced the full range of mental health issues: depression, suicide, eating disorders, cutting, and addiction. These and more are known to us intimately, directly.
We began SHALOM in response to our own great hurts. Too often even the best-intentioned congregations and people are reactive to crises, fully engaged in all too fleeting ways as other crises come our way. These times and urgencies require a consistent, long term, “front burner” commitment. That is SHALOM.
Mission Statement
Our mission is to be with people in their journey through mental health crises, whether within themselves, or among loved ones; to identify and bring resources that help along that journey; to hear one another’s stories, and be an encouragement for each other; to be the source of Good News at the heart of our faith.
Upcoming Event:
3rd Annual Tails and Tulips! On Sunday, April 28th at 2pm, join us for walk (bring any pet, too!), starting at church, walking through the Memorial Garden where yellow tulips were planted for Mental Health Awareness, and ending at The Fulton’s Barn where there will be live music (Sasco Dead and Sky Alan), food and drinks, and reps from several mental health resources. No pooch? No problem! Just grab a friend! Click here to register (it’s free!). Thank you for supporting our mission and helping us smash the stigma and bring hope!
