Where is the church and when are worship services?
GHCC is located at 1045 Old Academy Road, Fairfield CT 06824. Our phone number is (203) 259-5596. For detailed directions to the church, see our Directions page.
Sunday morning worship services are held at 9:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. from September through June, and at 8:45 and 10:00am during the summer.
What should I wear?
Please wear whatever you’re comfortable with! Some people at GHCC do dress up and some dress down. You’ll see people in suits, dresses, jeans, all worshiping together.
Are there Sunday school classes? How about a nursery for babies?
GHCC has Sunday school classes for kids from 2’s right through 7th grade. Sunday school classes are held from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Sunday morning — and from 10 to 11am in the summer. The nursery is available year-round, during worship, for children from birth to two. To find out more about Sunday School and more, check out our Childrens’ Programs page.
What’s the worship service like?
As you arrive at the door to the church, a greeter will welcome you. After you enter the church, ushers will be available to hand out bulletins and answer any questions you might have. When you enter the sanctuary, sit wherever you like – there are no assigned seats here! The bulletin, which lists the order of things in the worship service, should be pretty easy to follow. Note that ‘stars’ indicate times for the congregation to stand. But don’t worry if you sit or stand at the wrong time. Those of us who have been attending for years occasionally do that too.
How do you celebrate Holy Communion?
We celebrate Communion on the first Sunday of every month. At GHCC, we celebrate an Open Table: everyone is welcome to take part in communion – members, non-members, children, adults, baptized, and not baptized.
On Communion Sunday, worshipers stay seated in the pews, and the elements – bread and the cup (small cups of juice) – are passed down each pew by our Deacons. First, the bread is served. When everyone in the congregation has received the bread, we all eat the bread at the same time. Then the cup is served. When everyone in the congregation has received the cup, we all drink the cup at the same time. (There are small cup holders on the back of the pews to place the cup when you’ve finished.)
Are the sermons available online if I am out of town?
Our services are recorded each week — so you can always stay connected to worship! Click here to see past worship videos!
If I’m interested in joining the church, what do I do next?
After you’ve checked us out for a bit, if you’d like to go ahead and join as members of the church, we’ll be delighted!
On most first Sundays of the month, we take some time during worship to welcome in new members. In the Congregational tradition, we do this by saying together the Covenant of the church — a promise to care for one another and to seek to live as God wants us to.
You can take a look at the Greenfield Hill Covenant on our ‘About Us’ page!
Please be in touch with Alida Ward to set up a time to talk together in preparation!
If I want to have my wedding or baptism at Greenfield Hill, how do I arrange that?
We are always delighted to work with couples on their wedding, and always glad to welcome children to baptism, For information on scheduling baptisms and weddings, click here: Weddings/Baptisms
What if I have more questions?
If you have any questions, call our church office Monday through Friday at (203) 259-5596, or email the staff (you can find us on the Clergy and Staff page!)
We hope to see you next Sunday!
