Rev. Dr. David Johnson Rowe

Raised in New York City, David Rowe is a graduate of Colgate University, Andover Newton Seminary (M.Div.) and Eastern Baptist Seminary (D.Min.). Prior to his call to Greenfield Hill in 1997, David pastored churches in New York and Massachusetts. He is the author of a number of books, including ‘My Jesus’, a reflection on his personal faith journey; ‘Church’, a look at what makes for a good church, and ‘My Habitat for Humanity: The (Mostly) Good Old Days’ – the story of David’s many years with Habitat for Humanity International. David has also authored ‘Fieldstones of Faith’ (volumes I and II), collections of poetry based on scripture.
Rev. Dr. Alida Ward
Co-Pastor
Alida grew up in Charlottesville, Virginia, and graduated from Bryn Mawr College. Her seminary training was at Yale Divinity School, followed by a Doctorate in Ministry from Princeton Theological Seminary. Alida currently serves as Chaplain of the Fairfield Fire Department and Convener of the Fairfield Clergy Association. She is also on the Board of the Appalachia Service Project, Inc. Past service includes the boards of Operation Hope and the Council of Churches of Greater Bridgeport, as well as the Human Services Commission for the Town of Fairfield. As a married couple, David and Alida love travel, great movies, good books, cheering on all our church kids at games and concerts — and of course preaching!
Rev. Dr. Brian Bodt
Pastor of Community Care
Brian was born and raised in Havre de Grace, Maryland. He graduated from Western Maryland College (now McDaniel), Drew Theological Seminary (Master of Divinity), and Hartford Seminary (Doctorate in Ministry). A United Methodist minister, Brian served churches in New York and Connecticut and as CEO of The Council of Churches of Greater Bridgeport (CT). Publications include devotions in The Upper Room Disciplines (2021 and 2023 editions) and his doctorate by The Alban Institute. Brian is married to Carol Galloway, a physical therapist at Rehabilitation Associates in Fairfield. Their son Daniel, wife Melisa and grandchildren Eva and Daniel are members of GHCC. Their sons Adam (Katie), Aaron and Ryan complete their core family. Brian runs, skis and plays with big and small trains.
Marcia Carothers
Director of Christian Education
Marcia has served as Greenfield Hill’s Director of Christian Education since 1990, coming to us with an extensive background in teaching and special education, having earned her undergraduate degree in Elementary and Special Education at Purdue University and her Master’s Degree in Learning Disabilities at the University of Cincinnati. She and her husband Bill have raised four children (Traci, Brent, Drew, and Ashley). Marcia delights in children and in constantly seeking new ways to bring the Bible alive to new generations.
Roni Widmer
Office Administrator
Roni Widmer, a member of GHCC for over 25 years, joined the staff as Office Manager in 2014 after many years of serving as our church newsletter editor as well as serving on many boards. Stop by the office and say hello — Roni is the warm and welcoming face of our Church, and you’ll enjoy getting to know her as much as we appreciate having her on our church staff! Our office hours are 8:30 am to 3:00 pm, Monday through Friday.
Dr. Michael Crowley
Music Director
Dr. Michael Crowley became GHCC’s music director in 2019, after receiving his Doctorate of Musical Arts from the Manhattan School of Music, where he taught keyboard skills and applied lessons. He also received training in hymnody and congregational song at Yale’s Institute of Sacred Music. In 2021, Dr. Crowley founded the Greenfield Hill Church School of Music which currently has a growing roster of students and teaching faculty. He currently resides in Fairfield with his husband, Sean, and their beloved dogs, Captain and Emmy.
Sara Mastrony Hoefer
Junior Choir Director
Sara is a long time Fairfield resident and graduate of Fairfield High School and Bucknell University. In addition to being our Junior Choir Director, Sara is the choral director at Tomlinson Middle School and directs one of the a cappella groups at Fairfield Ludlowe High School. Sara enjoys every minute of working with the children of Greenfield Hill Congregational Church and particularly loves preparing the singers for the tree lighting in December as well as getting them ready to perform the musical each spring. Sara is always welcoming new members to the Children’s Choir!
Kathy Russell
Finance Director
Kathy became a member of GHCC in June 2022, got married in the church by Alida in September 2022 and joined the staff as Finance Director later that month! She is also our coordinator for Operation Hope’s monthly dinners. She is a graduate of Boston College and has worked in HR and Finance for over 25 years in both the corporate and non-profit sectors. She is very excited to put her financial talents to use at GHCC. Kathy and her new husband Rob Malley have 5 children between them (Kayla, Tommy, Eden, Ben and Harrison). When she has free time Kathy likes to hike, ski, read and cook.
Jim Zalenski
The Sexton
As THE Sexton, Jim is the one to make sure that everything is running is it should, in all our church properties. Light burned out? he’s on it! Swinging door sticking? He’ll fix that! Gutters clogged? He knows whom to call! With his friendly demeanor, and willingness to do whatever is needed, Jim is a delight to have on staff. Jim comes to us with a background in customer service as a 16-year USPS veteran, and a firm knowledge of building maintenance, through his work at Fairfield Housing Authority, and as a building supervisor at the Darien Police Department.
