Welcome to the GHCC 300th Anniversary Renovation!
Several years ago, when we began talking about how we wanted to do to acknowledge our 300-year history, we pondered what improvements would best position our beloved church to meet our needs as we head into our next century. On the top of that list were improvements to our facilities, namely our Sanctuary and the Len Morgan Youth Barn. After a successful Capital Campaign in 2023, we were able to begin renovations to both buildings in May 2024 and open our doors by the following September. We were blessed to have talented professionals in our congregation who helped make this dream a reality.
Our architect, Michael Smith of Michael Smith Architects had a vision for how to maintain the historic beauty of our church while accommodating the changes our pastors and music director were hoping to see to make our space more flexible, safe and welcoming.
Our general contractor, Chris Shea of Domus Constructors promised our church would be finished on time and on budget and along with his professional and hardworking team, he delivered.
Designer Dawn Lauf of JC Designs and Vintage Finds, has a passion for combining old with new and spent countless hours scouring paint colors, fabrics and furniture which has resulted in the perfect design scheme as we honor our history with an eye to the future.
As you will see in the video, there are certainly some differences, but much is the same. The light fixtures in the Sanctuary have been beautifully restored, the exquisite moldings around the church have been highlighted by paint, the original pews have been restored as best they could and brought back with their original mahogany tops, but you may be comforted by the familiar creaks that may still be present in a few of them!
We hope you enjoy the video, but we also hope you will stop in and see the church for yourself! The Sanctuary is open all day, every day and we cherish our role as a welcoming respite for the entire community.
